NOVEMBER 20, 2016
The first annual Turkey Shootout is a 3v3 Lacrosse tournament for Boys and Girls ages 7-14 years old.
The Turkey Shootout is a community event that’s sole purpose is to benefit a local lacrosse player, coach or program. This year’s benefits will be donated to Frederick County native, Brooke Wilson and the Manna Project International, as well as Lacrosse the Nations. Brooke will be in Nicaragua for 13-months with Manna Project International (MPI) and Lacrosse the Nations (LtN) working with these two non-profit organizations to aid in their community development efforts in Central America. She will mainly be working in the capital city of Managua, designing and implementing holistic community development programs, as well as coaching lacrosse at local schools. All donations will go toward living expenses, insurance, and basic programmatic funds and equipment.
About Lacrosse the Nations
LtN is a humanitarian organization that unifies the lacrosse community to sustainably improve education and health while creating opportunity and hope for children in need. Using lacrosse along with other physical activities, LtN’s programs teach important life skills and provide students with positive outlets for sports and play.
About Manna Project International
Manna Project International (MPI) is a volunteer driven 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving international communities through holistic development. In partnership with the University of South Florida Health Colleges MPI opened a primary-care clinic in Cedro Galán, Nicaragua in 2013. Their objective is to improve the overall health and well-being of the communities of Cedro Galán and Chiquilistagua. MPI’s clinic and community programs address treatable and preventable medical conditions so that the community can focus on living, growing and moving forward. In addition o the clinic, some of the projects MPI runs that I will be involved with over the next year include adolescent health education, sports and nutrition instruction, and child nutrition sponsorship. MPI also supports the professional development of the community members through a local jewelry cooperative, English courses, and health professional training.
